When Nancy and her family bought the house, it was a shell of its former self. The proportions were still magnificent and the tall sash windows let in beautiful light, but almost everything else had been stripped away. No original cornicing, ceiling roses, skirting etc. Just bare rooms in a near-derelict state.
Restoring it became a slow and careful process. Every architectural detail was researched and chosen to reflect what would originally have been there. Cornicing was matched to examples found in nearby houses of the same period. Ceiling roses and skirting were tracked down piece by piece. The aim was to let the architecture breathe again, quietly and confidently.
