Kazungula, before the Bridge…
Before the days of the modern bridge, crossing from Zambia into Botswana meant braving the famous Kazungula Ferry. Driving two loaded Land Cruiser 79s from Safari Drive, we approached the Zambezi River, knowing this was no ordinary border crossing.
The ferry was more of a floating platform, creaking under the weight of our rigs, with the vast Zambezi flowing beneath us. There was always a sense of adventure.
Once loaded, the slow drift across was an incredible moment, a chance to reflect on how this river serves as the meeting point for four countries: Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. After what felt like a timeless journey, we arrived on the shores of Botswana, ready to continue our overland adventure through its endless, untamed wilderness.
