AUGRABIES FALLS
Called « The Place of Great Noise » by the Khoi people, the Augrabies Falls are a 18-km abyss of the Orange River Gorge. « Ankoerebis » in Khoi language became « Augrabies » for the Trek Boers settlers.
In 1988, the Falls have recorded 7,800 cubic metres (280,000 cu ft) of water every second.
Since 1966, over 20 people have accidentally fallen in the falls and only two have survived.
Arguably, the Augrabies Falls may be more spectacular than the Victoria Falls… especially during floods.
Have you had ever heard of the Augrabies Falls before? Would you visit them on your next Southern Africa trip? Let me know in comments.
