Just changed my oil today in Windhoek at safariengineeringnamibia
My diff oil looked bad and had to be changed.
Obviously, the diff oil used by Toyota is not suitable for Africa. For this climate and intensive sand driving Safari Engineering recommends to use 85W140EP. This oil is a High Pressure Hypoid-Gear Oils for highly stressed differentials.
You would never hear that by changing your oil at Toyota’s. I have learned on thing, don’t work with the guys that make cars, work with the guys that fix them. I know you are supposed to service your car at the dealer. This is not an anti-Toyota post, what I’m saying is that even a LandCruiser needs to be modified to go bush and this even includes the oil you use sometimes. Those guys who fix cars in Namibia and Southern Africa have seen cars that are abused in the bush everyday of the year. Their experience is much greater and they know what works and what doesn’t.
