HUNTING WITH THE BUSHMEN Today, I went on a hunting trip with two hunters from the Ju/‘Hoansi tribe. They are part of the San people and often wrongfully referred to as « bushmen », which is an insult. This was such an incredible experience. Sharing with those men for one day their lives is a privilege and a honor. I realized that hunting with a bow and arrows and a spear is far from being not easy. The arrows have a poison on them so the injured animal would not stop bleeding however small was the cut. Usually, a walking safari is made under the supervision of a trained guide with a gun. We were using elephant trails to make easy progress in the bush and spotted lion’s tracks. It was a feeling of vulnerability as we had no guns and a feeling of confidence in those men who knew the bush like no one else. Keeping up with them was a real challenge, they walk so fast. I offered to share my bottle of water but refused; they drink only when they get some food. They are rather small and thin...
