Origins of modern yoga and its real goal dates back to the great Yogi Nammalvar of whom very little is known now. Most of the yoga practiced in the West today has its bases in B.K.S Iyengar and K. Pattabhi Jois but not much is said about the origins of their practice and teachings. This has created a misinterpretation of the true goal of yoga, many teachers and practitioners transmit yoga as something to relax or meditate on themselves, what they call meditation is just a selfish way of being the center and their practice is only something to make them feel good physically or mentally and achieve the materialistic goals they want, in other words it is a self-centered atheistic “yoga”.
