When I first learned how celebrity worship, political power, and corruption intertwine, it was decades ago. 2003 to be exact- when I was a young single Mom. (My daughter literally saved me) Back then, speaking it out loud got you labeled dramatic, crazy, or conveniently dismissed. Especially if you were a woman. Especially if you were already being silenced somewhere else. I survived an abusive marriage. I survived gaslighting on every level. And I survived knowing truths before they were “safe” to say out loud. Now the files are coming out. The conversations are changing. And suddenly what was once mocked is now mainstream news. I’m not celebrating any of this. I’m grieving that it took this long. On Super Bowl Sunday—when spectacle, symbolism, and distraction are at their loudest—I’m choosing discernment over worship.
