This has been an extremely emotional past week for me. My hometown, where my family and friends live, just got destroyed. Being so far away, I’ve been feeling so helpless.

I grew up on Sanibel Island and went to highschool in Ft.Myers before moving to Miami. It was my home and its a place my kids always look forward to going to every year.

We always knew that Sanibel was one major hurricane away from a disaster. Yet it was such a special place that felt like a big community, we all took that risk together.

Sanibel is where I got my first job at She Sells Sea Shells, was a hostess at Timbers & Matzalunas, played Softball for the Sanibel Little League, helped line Periwinkle Way with lights for Luminary night, would bike everywhere on the island even to Captiva to go to the Mucky Duck, would go to the beach pretty much every day and listen to music while the sun sets, and go to Jerry’s to see the parrots and get all the groceries.
