You know the saying “motion is lotion”?
It’s true.
Sometimes, when your muscles are sore, stiff, and your joints creaky, the best thing you can do is be proactive- sweat and move a little.
Do the recovery tools like sauna/ice bath/compression/cryo etc have their place? Sure.
But on days that you feel like you’ve been hit by a small bus (mentally and/or physically), it can be beneficial both for your joints/muscles AND your central nervous system to do a REGENERATIVE workout.
Btw- I’m not saying you should do this on a rest day. On a rest day, just REST.
A regenerative workout is something you can do on a day where you feel sluggish and you know you should do something but you don’t want to feel more tired after.
I also like to do them as my second workout of the day, if I feel stiff and creaky after morning squash training. (It’s a good Thursday workout, if you know what I mean).
Here’s a rough template:
- Breathing & Mobility exercises (5 mins)
- 8 x 20 seconds on/40...
