On a trip to Morocco in 2018, my friend towensuw and I took an overnight bus from Fez to Merzouga, a small town that borders the Sahara desert. The bus dropped us off a few hours earlier than expected, in what felt like the middle of nowhere. It was 4:30 in the morning, and it was nearly pitch black. We didn’t have any accommodation booked and had no idea where to go, so we sat in silence, shivering in the cold desert air. After an hour of desperation, the light started to peek over the horizon, and we caught our first glimpse of the Sahara Desert, the sole reason that we had traveled to Merzouga. The Sahara had literally only been about 20 yards away from us when we were first dropped off, but it was so dark that we hadn’t been able to see it. Taylor and I looked at each other, picked up our packs, and ran towards the dunes. We spent the next two hours running up and down the dunes, flipping in the sand and taking photos. . . . . . #forthecurious #houseofspoils #natgeotravel #condena...
