We are living inside something most people don’t even realise exists.
An attention economy.
Where your value is slowly being measured not by who you are…
…but by how many people are watching you.
Likes.
Followers.
Views.
Comments.
These aren’t just numbers anymore.
They’ve become a form of identity.
Social media platforms were designed to keep you chasing validation because every notification triggers a small dopamine hit in the brain.
The same reward system used in gambling and addiction.
So the cycle begins:
Post → Likes → Dopamine → Validation → Post Again.
And over time something dangerous happens…
People begin building their sense of self around external approval.
Not character.
Not values.
Not substance.
But attention.
The real question we should be asking is this:
What happens to a society when appearance, popularity and attention become the most rewarded traits?
And what happens to the next generation growing up believing their worth is measured in likes?
