Yonel was left at an orphanage in Haiti 36 years ago when he was 5. His father had three other children and could not afford to raise another. “I thought that they hate me back then because they just kick me out. And they didn't even tell me why. But later on I would understand why they did that,” he says. “I think they do it out of love.” Yonel is now the director of Have Faith Haiti, an orphanage in the gang-controlled city of Port-au-Prince where 56 children live.
