Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on Monday, 16 March in Brussels that Hungary will continue to block a €90-billion loan ($103 billion) for Ukraine and new sanctions on Russia until Russian oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia resume.
Flows have been suspended since late January due to damage Kyiv says requires time to fix, sparking a diplomatic dispute between Budapest and Kyiv.
The issue is central to nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban's re-election campaign ahead of the April 12 election, following Hungary's previous vetoes of EU sanctions on Russia and a major loan to Ukraine.
