China’s women’s team secured its place in next year’s World Cup with a 2-0 win over Chinese Taipei in the Asian Cup on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
China needed two goals in extra-time to make the semi-finals.
The win keeps China on course for a record-extending 10th continental title, though the team will be without Wang Shuang for the next game, after the midfielder received a yellow card.
China now faces host Australia on Tuesday for a place in the final.
China coach Ante Milicic said: “We looked a little bit anxious, but in the end, I felt that we were fairly well in control. We won the game, qualified for the World Cup, and we moved into the semifinals.
So I am just delighted for the players and staff."
