My first Olympics was in 2010 and my community sent me off like a hero! Parades, pep rallies, a level of support I’d never experienced before.
And in that moment, I learned something important, with that kind of support comes responsibility.
The day before leaving this time, I went back to West Iron County Schools and Forest Park, just like I always do.
Because when I came home with a gold medal, I knew exactly what that responsibility was. To come back. To share my story.
And to help inspire more stories like mine to come out of small towns right here in the Upper Peninsula.
This place shaped me.
It gave me grit, toughness, and a mindset that doesn’t quit.
Never forget this: you’re a Yooper.
You’re built different. 👊
