Does the rain icon on your weather app make you cancel your plans? 📱
Major UK tourist attractions, including Chester and Edinburgh Zoo, are calling for changes to the way forecasts are displayed on them - warning that "misleading" rain icons cost venues up to up to £137,000 ($181,655) a day.
They argue a single rain cloud icon summarising a 24-hour period can imply a washout, even when much of the day is expected to be dry - meaning plans are cancelled from a quick glance at a phone screen.
Attractions have now urged the Met Office, government and major weather app developers to explore practical improvements, stressing that their concern is about how the forecast is presented visually rather than its accuracy.
The Met Office says they are working on making improvements.
