An Americana prairie parade. I usually see these planes bison quietly grazing but this time they were full of energy. The bulls were head-butting, grunting, and wallowing in the dust to show off their dominance for their rut. Fun fact: even though a lot of people call these guys buffalo (um, looking at you University of Colorado Buffs), these are American bison. True buffalo, like the Cape buffalo and water buffalo, are found in Africa in Asia. The confusion started when early European settlers arrived in North America and saw bison. The bison reminded them of the buffalo and the name stuck in American culture even though they are different species.
