This October I’m sharing “spooky but cool” animals: the ones with bad PR, eerie looks, or moonlit habits that remind us nature isn’t always cute. Ravens have been cast as bad omens for centuries. Their black feathers, haunting calls, and rather off-putting habit of showing up around battlefields and graveyards made them easy symbols of mystery and death. But they’re actually brilliant. Ravens recognize faces, use tools, play games, and even plan for the future. They can remember which humans helped or tricked them and will spread the word to other ravens.
