This October I’m sharing “spooky but cool” animals: the ones with bad PR, eerie looks, or moonlit habits that remind us nature isn’t always cute. Rattlesnakes get a bad rep for obvious reasons… the rattle, the fangs, and the whole venom thing. But they’re actually shy, calm, and misunderstood. They can’t strike nearly as far as most people think, usually only about one third to one half of their body length, and they’d rather not bite anything other than food. Venom takes energy to make, so they usually save it for dinner, not defense.
