#TakeActionTuesday: This past month, the world saw Paralympic athletes compete at the highest level. What many people didn’t see are the barriers for access to custom devices and clinical care that many athletes with disabilities need to compete, such as activity-specific prosthetics, orthotics, and mobility devices. In the U.S., the healthcare system views such devices for competitive sport or essential physical activities to achieve health goals as “not medically necessary”. Many athletes must rely on charitable support or pay out of pocket to reach the starting line. So Every BODY Can Move (SEBCM) is advocating to change that. As a national healthcare and disability rights initiative, their goal is to ensure every BODY can reach their starting line, whether that is the Paralympic Games or in their community.
