Sometimes you do not want to put the puck in the corner… On shots outside of the dot or top of the circle out, a goaltenders job is to control the puck. Either possess it or put it where your teammates have the best chance of getting to it. Now, usually that will mean getting the puck out of danger and toward the corner. If you look at this situation here, you see that Anthony Stolarz puts a little emphasis with his blocker to direct this puck up toward the middle. Much of this decision comes in his pre-shot read of where the pressure is at and where his support is at on the ice. Goalie is a good habit to get into during practice. It’s not just stopping pucks, but being consciously aware of where you are putting the rebounds.
