The Tongass is one of the world’s largest intact temperate old-growth rainforests and is home to many beloved species, including these adorable Alaskan black bears. Ancient forests like the Tongass are also one of our most powerful natural defenses against the climate crisis, storing vast amounts of carbon and supporting rich ecosystems. “This ruling is a big victory for the Tongass’ old-growth forests.
