Ink Face 🪡 The mountainous state of Chin is inhabited by a Burmese-Tibetan ethnic group who emigrated from China in the 8th century. A strip of land where colonial and imperialist wars of conquest have taken place over the centuries. To protect Chin women from invaders, considered extremely beautiful and particular, the tradition of tattoos on the faces of teenage girls was introduced to try to hide their beauty. Today those tattoos, now almost forgotten, are in effect the distinctive signs of the beauty of every Chin woman of the older generation: each drawing tells of the tribe of origin, of the village of origin.
