A new view of a cat's eye The Cat's Eye Nebula is a dying star. As it nears the end of its lifetime, its core collapses and its outer layers puff out into space in elaborate, complex patterns. Astronomers have been studying it for more than 200 years; it's about 4,400 light-years from Earth, and can be seen in the constellation Draco. Our NASAHubble telescope first observed the nebula in 1995—just a few years after it launched—but Hubble's latest image captures the very core of the nebula in sharp detail. Hubble also teamed up with the European Space Agency's Euclid space telescope to study the universe surrounding the Cat's Eye. Go to nasa.gov/hubble for the full story!
