Did you know only about 9% of plastic ever made has been recycled? The rest accumulates in landfills, rivers, and the ocean where it moves into food webs and eventually into our bodies. That’s why it is so important to celebrate #RecyclingHeroes like SungaiWatch! In Indonesia, at the heart of the plastic crisis, three siblings — KellyBencheghib, SamBencheghib, and GaryBencheghib — have sparked a movement, working with an incredible local team to stop plastic before it reaches the ocean. They install river barriers, collect and sort waste, and turn it into new materials. In 10 days, they’ll run 1,200 km across Indonesia with the goal of raising $1 million to expand their work.
