Cincinnati City Council narrowly passed a resolution in support of spending $8 million to help construct the new music venue at Riverbend. Council voted 5-4 in favor of the city kicking in $8 million out of the $160 million project cost for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s Farmer Music Center, which is already under construction in the California neighborhood on the site of the old Coney Island amusement park. Several council members, as well as some residents at the meeting, expressed concerns about the city paying millions of dollars for the music center. The Enquirer previously reported the money would come from the city's over $400 million capital fund outlined in the fiscal year 2027 budget. That plan still has to be approved before June 30. Council couldn’t answer specifics on why $8 million is needed, what the funding gap was or what it would mean for the music venue if the city doesn’t put in the money.
