Get pulled in to #BlackHoleWeek⁣ ⁣ This week, we're celebrating black holes, which are found at the center of most galaxies— including our own — or occasionally spotted roaming the cosmos. With images like these, created using X-ray data from our Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) and visible light from NASAHubble, astronomers study how black holes interact when their galaxies collide. Here, the supermassive black hole in the galaxy on the right is consuming the galaxy on the left in a process called accretion.⁣ ⁣ Astronomers divide black holes into three categories, depending on their mass, with supermassive black holes being the largest. Black holes can be as "small" as a few times the mass of our Sun — or can be more massive than billions of our Suns combined. ⁣ ⁣ Image descriptions:⁣ ⁣ Image 1: Two swirling galaxies appear in blue, white, orange, and brown as they circle a center point near the middle of the image. Light blue and white specks dot the two oval-shaped gal...
