The Astoria Column, one of the Oregon coast’s best-known landmarks, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its dedication on July 18, 2026.
The 125-foot-tall monument was built to symbolize the pioneering history of the Pacific Northwest and the establishment of Astoria, the oldest permanent U.S. settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. The column was originally funded by the Great Northern Railway and the City of Astoria in 1926 to promote tourism and highlight regional history.
Located atop Coxcomb Hill, the Column offers panoramic views of the river, ocean and surrounding forests.
