On mile 2560 of our travels in 2026, we visited the Boston Legacy for their much-anticipated home opener at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. It had been 9 years since an NWSL team played for this city, and 907 days since the Legacy were announced, which meant all the fans who turned up were eager to be part of this historic occasion. But as it usually goes with most home openers, there was a bit of anxiety about how it would all pan out. In the end, though, the 30,000+ fans who showed out for the Legacy gave the perfect backdrop for such a special moment for soccer in Boston.
