Hacksaw Jim Duggan said on the Everybody's Got a Pod podcast that NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race used to walk into arenas wearing a double shoulder holster with firearms, and that Race's generation of traveling champions is where Duggan's generation learned to carry guns.
"That's where we learned to carry guns from, Harley. Harley would come in, he'd have a double shoulder holster on. 'Who am I working with?' I hope not me."
Duggan said the NWA champions of that era, including Race, Dusty Rhodes, and Ric Flair, traveled with large amounts of cash because they were paid at each stop. "You'd be carrying cash. You kind of had to have weapons on you."
He also recalled that WWE's Arnie Skaaland would walk around downtown New Jersey carrying a Halliburton briefcase with tens of thousands of dollars in cash to pay off wrestlers after shows.
Duggan said nobody ever robbed him and speculated it may have had something to do with Vince McMahon Sr.'s connections.
