Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a treasure of Florida’s natural and cultural history, located between Hobe Sound and Tequesta. This park is more than just a place of beauty—it’s a sanctuary for diverse ecosystems, including sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, mangroves, and river swamps. The park is home to the Loxahatchee River, Florida’s first National Wild and Scenic River, and offers a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with activities like hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking. However, this cherished landscape is at risk. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s recent ‘Great Outdoors Initiative’ proposes extensive developments across the state’s park system, including increased lodging and recreational facilities (golf courses & pickleball courts) .
