This summer, we teamed up with luckyricedotcom as part of our commitment to sustainability, to install a rice paddy on South Oculus Plaza. This week, the rice was harvested and sent off to Randall’s Island to be bundled and dried. From there, the grains will be threshed to remove the grain from the stem, and then milled to remove the husk + bran. Some of the soil will remain at the World Trade Center for use around the campus planters, and another planter will go to Governor’s Island with grownyc.
