I remember spending sooo much time overthinking the coming out process. I got so comfortable being uncomfortable that I didn’t realize that by staying in the closet I was choosing suffering. I felt so hung up on which label I identified most with, and was so terrified about what would happen if that label were to ever change…that I thought staying hidden and continuing to pretend to be someone I was not, was the easier choice. But it wasn’t. It kept me small and it kept me stuck. I felt isolated and so alone. I deeeeply craved intimacy both in friendships and romance, yet I was the thing that was standing in the way of truly having it. Withholding my truth, and honestly, so much of myself and my experience, was me keeping others at arms length. The fear of being rejected felt soooo big that I convinced myself that being alone in it was easier.
