I share this because this is WAY too common of an experience for LGBTQ+ people. Whether it’s being told that you “don’t look gay enough” to be in a queer space or have been excluded in spaces that are meant to be inclusive, you deserve better!! Can you imagine being newly out or exploring and immediately feeling rejected by the community? To be honest, these type of experiences made my internalized h*m*ph*bia so much worse when I was in the process of coming out. It made me want no part of these spaces, and I was often left feeling that I didn’t belong in “straight” or queer spaces. Let this be your invitation to do better.
