The Evo VI is the most important Mitsubishi ever built and it's not even close.
To understand why the Evo VI matters you have to understand the era it came from. The late 90s, Group A, World Rally Championship was a battlefield. Subaru, Toyota, and Mitsubishi were throwing everything they had at each other on stages across the world, and the cars that came out of that war were some of the most focused and ferocious machines ever built for the road. The Evo VI was Mitsubishi's ultimate weapon during that period and it showed in every single detail.
Under the hood sat a 2.0L turbocharged 4G63 producing around 280hp in stock form, but the real magic was in the chassis and all wheel drive system that had been refined through five previous generations of motorsport development. This wasn't a car built in a boardroom, it was built publicly on the race course in Finland, Kenya, and Great Britain and the road car was the direct result of everything Mitsubishi learned out there.
