When @montellfish was working on his new dj gummy bear project, he realized the 2020s don't have a definitive sound, compared to other decades. He refers to this feeling as "Purgatory," which turned into the album's name. "I was having a hard time finding inspiration within the 2020s because of a lack of a definite sound from our generation,” he tells P&P. “I think there are sounds that defined every ten years, and it kind of scares me a little bit that I feel like the 2020s don't have that as much." As for the 'The Spirit Still Remains (Purgatory)' album, he says, "To me, it's like a statement on hoping to find a definitive-ness for the future, and what music sounds like for the future."
