Happy International Seal Day 🦭 While we celebrate seals and sea lions every day at #seaworldaus today is a day dedicated to raising awareness about one of the most amazing marine mammals. There are 35 species of Seals and Sea Lions (or pinnipeds) worldwide and Australia is fortunate enough to be home to several species, including one of the rarest in the world, the Australian Sea Lion. Unfortunately, the Australian Sea Lion is listed as endangered due to historical sealing, slow reproduction rates, and modern threats such as fisheries bycatch. Sea World is home to Australian sea lions, Californian sea lions, New Zealand/Long-nosed fur seals and Subantarctic fur seals!
