We closed out Black History Month with 12 Jumoke scholars in grades 6–8 submitting video entries for the BSL Educational Foundation’s MLK Young People’s Oratorical Contest. This year’s theme, “Speaking Truth to Power,” challenged scholars to reflect deeply, think critically, and boldly articulate their perspectives in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy. Four scholars advanced as finalists and were paired with coaches to refine their speeches and strengthen their delivery. On February 26, they took the stage and represented Jumoke Academy with excellence — earning 1st Place ($750), 2nd Place ($500), and 3rd Place ($250), totaling $1,500 in awards in the Middle School Division. More importantly, they demonstrated what it means to live out our mission — developing as confident communicators, critical thinkers, and emerging global citizens prepared to compete beyond the classroom.
