Happy National Mascot Day to the most spirited cat in the game — Boko the Bobcat! 🐾
The bobcat, known for its courage and tenacity, was adopted as the official mascot of Texas State University in 1921. But it wasn’t until 1964 that our beloved Bobcat got a name. Sophomore Beth Greenlees from Luling, Texas, submitted the winning entry in a campus-wide “Name the Bobcat” contest — and just like that, Boko was born (and Beth walked away with a legendary $5 prize and lifetime bragging rights).
Since then, Boko has become more than just a mascot. He’s a symbol of our spirit, resilience, and Bobcat pride — showing up loud and proud for every game day, graduation, and campus tradition.
