On Sunday, March 22nd, the University of Minnesota announced the promotion of Greg “Boom” May. May is a former #D3 player and coach with both being with the Augsburg Auggies. Most recently, he’s served as associate head coach with the Golden Gophers since 2023. May, a native of Burnsville, MN, graduated from Augsburg with a degree in health & physical education in 2007 while being a four-year player for the Auggies. In 100 career games, he put together 22 goals & 24 assists for 46 points. He’d earn a #MIAC All-Conference honor during his time. He began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant coach with Burnsville HS (MN) before getting his first head coaching job with Farmington HS (MN) in 2014, spending two seasons. He’d then shift to Blake HS (MN) in 2016 while also becoming a scout with the Chicago Steel (USHL).
