As hundreds of runners continue to push themselves through the desert at cocodona250, we look back at Dave Odell’s journey from last year. In Part 2 of his story, he reflects on Mile 145 to the finish line, how the meaning behind such a difficult challenge became much more clear, and why his experience with ulcerative colitis and running without a colon gives him a much greater “why” than “why not” to attempt finishing 250 miles on foot in under 100 hours. As a member of the IBD community, Dave’s Cocodona 250 finish demonstrates the power of mind over matter, and that limitations are only what we make of them.
“Some folks spend days and weeks at silent meditation retreats, disappear into monasteries, or fast for days as a way to reflect, gain clarity, or even make self discoveries that heal them and alter lives. They’re seeking something. So am I and I find it by running long.”
