Awake, and just in time for
#WorldBearDay ๐ป
We're excited to share that female Grizzly bear Shintay has been up and exploring her habitat over the last number of days!
Are you aware? Grizzly bears enter an annual state of winter torpor, a "light" hibernation, which can take place anywhere between late October and April (weather dependent). Bears like Shintay will dramatically lower their heart rate and metabolism, allowing them to live off stored fat without eating, drinking, or urinating for months.
While weโre excited to see her up and active again for just a few minutes a day, please note that she is still enjoying the comforts of her behind-the-scenes den. At this time, the Canadian Domain remains temporarily closed to Zoo guests and members ๐
Stay tuned for further updates on when you can visit with Shintay (and a number of your favourite Canadian species) ๐ป
