Sometimes closure arrives in disguise - not in the moment you begged for, but in a final glitch of memory, when the rage dissolves and what’s left is only the outline of love you once hoped for. AI lets me imagine those outlines now - new media self-portraiture, where absence becomes material, and technology plays stand-in for what life denied. Brilliant, musically gifted, but mean, drunk, and furious with the world. Three months before he died, dementia stole his anger and left behind a version of him I had always wished existed - caring, present, even gentle. I got closure in that strange window. My brother never did. To him, our father stayed cruel to the end. My dad died oceans away from me, days before anyone found him.
