Thornbury Castle - If you are close to Bristol (UK), I highly recommend to make a detour, visit and stay thornburycastle…you will be thrown back centuries, surrounded by palatial luxury at a time where Tudors reigned supreme 🛡️⚔️. The original Thornbury manor dates back to 1019 and the standing fortified castle has been built in 1510 by the third Duke of Buckingham, Edward Stafford. It was a display of wealth and ambition that Henry VIII didn’t take too kindly. 10 years later, Edward was accused of trahison, beheaded and Henry VIII took control of the castle. Not a wise strategy to piss off kings at that time🩸😅 .
Aside of the mesmerising architecture, imposing building, craftsmanship, art pieces, feel…the restaurant/food there is simply exquisite!! Usually a let down in those historic places turned into hotels. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get their first Michelin start in the coming years 🍽️⭐️
