People are usually surprised about Monaco architecture when they first visit the Principality. Being the most expensive real estate market in the world (by quite a margin) with an average price of €48,000 per sq/m and the playground of millionaires, most expect to see modern, luxurious, shining buildings alongside historical ones. It couldn’t be further away from the reality! 😁 You will find of course some absolutely beautiful and opulent historic buildings, either medieval (the Palace), but mainly Belle Époque style. However, most of the principality architecture is made of 1950s and 1970s building blocs that some might called slightly outdated (others would use stronger words), with flats owner’s Bentley or Ferrari parked underground (contrast). With the 2.5km2 at its full capacity, we still saw in recent years the development of modern buildings, tour Odéon being one (2015 completion) and there are a few exciting projects under way, including Mareterra (front of Grimaldi forum), ...
