2020 has been, from a real estate perspective, about the exodus from city centres towards the suburbs and the countryside. And this across many developed countries. The key question at the moment on many’s lips is whether we’re about to see the reverse within the next 2/3 years. Rationale being that some of those who moved out will miss the cultural buzz and lifestyle of the city. In my opinion, quite unlikely. We might see some, who moved to the countryside, getting a Pied-a-Terre back in the city, but I would suspect most will stick with their new life decision. The past few months has triggered an important thought process about priorities and life quality, usually seen amongst the 45+ and established families, but now amongst younger people too. With the lockdowns, people’s home became their salvation, and with it, indoor and outdoor space (by default, more expensive in city centres).
