ROAD TRIP – In 2017, I was travelling from Madrid down to Seville to meet with clients flying in from Zurich. Instead of going by plane, I went for a road trip and stopped off in the village of Cuacos de Yuste to visit the ancient Monasterio de Yuste.   Rich in history, the monastery was founded by the Hieronymite Order of monks in 1402, and it was the final resting place of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. The monastery has two cloisters; one is Gothic and features spectacular granite stonework, very typical to 15th century architecture. The other is Renaissance with beautifully ornate decorative elements, and has much more natural light than its older, Gothic counterpart.   The journey was 600km from Madrid to Seville but travelling through the country by car is one of the best ways to get off the beaten track and experience Spanish life in the charming, traditional inland villages.
