I recently worked a weekend call shift from 7am-5pm and got really lucky! There was only 1 scheduled lap appy on the board in the morning. It lasted about 2 hours and no other cases were added on for the rest of the day! It’s not always like this. Sometimes there will be so many emergencies that you can end up working the entire shift. Call pay outs are different at every hospital! Some offer a stipend for simply being on call whereas others don’t pay unless you actually get called on. Some will guarantee you 2 hours minimum or even 4 hours for coming in!
