Minimize exposure to radiation - we do a lot of cases that require xray such as ortho, interventional radiology, spine, pain cases. It’s best to avoid these cases altogether which the anesthesia department can usually accommodate. However, if there are no other options and you can’t swap assignments with another coworker, double up on lead and stand behind the shield (or 6+ ft away from the xray source). The dosimeter will measure how much radiation you have had and you’ll be alerted if it’s above the normal recommended amount. 2. Limit exposure to CMV: Cytomegalovirus is transferred from person to person through bodily fluids. If you are pregnant, the virus can also spread to your unborn child.
