On Saturday, Central Michigan gymnastics claimed victory at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the program's 20th title.
The win also marks CMU's fourth MAC Championships title in five years. Senior Luciana Alvarado-Reid was named MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year and MAC Gymnast of the Year while also tying for first in two events and winning the all-around competetion. CMU head coach Christine MacDonald was named MAC Coach of the Year for the second time in her career.
“This group has been amazing, and it's been such a journey,” MacDonald said. “We've been working so hard for every day and every outcome. I'm so happy and so proud of them because today was truly a team effort. We showed a lot of fight and a lot of grit today.”
Now, the Chippewas await their selection for the NCAA gymnastics championships, which begin NCAA regionals on April 1-5.
